News Desk : An Italian climber was successfully rescued near a 7,790-meter-high camp on Mt. Qomolangma (known as Mount Everest in the West) by Chinese rescuers on Wednesday, according to the head of an expedition company in Tibet Autonomous Region.

Luigi Rampini, 69, became trapped near the No. 2 Camp on Mt. Everest on Tuesday, said Tsering Samdrup, general manager of the Tibet Himalaya Expedition Company.

As strong winds hampered the rescue efforts, rescuers failed to reach the site where the man was trapped on Tuesday. But five rescuers gave Rampini first aid as soon as they found him at about 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

An initial health check-up showed that the Italian was in a stable condition despite some frostbite on his fingers and nose.

The rescue party started a descent of the mountain at around 5 p.m..
